Filling your taxes using the software helps. It allows you to understand what you are doing (to a certain degree) and next year, you just can “load” the data of 2008 and tarraaa you are done with it quite fast. Yes, compound words in german are a science for itself….

oh man, sounds like reading tax forms in German is about as complicated (if not more so) than reading theology! What gets me is all those big long sentences that go for half a page with the verb right at the end . . .

Poor Michelle, all this Papierkrieg and big German words…
Ask Grossmueti, she’ll help you. I think she’s always filled in their own tax forms. Otherwise a lawyer will do it for you - at a cost!
But it sounds like you’re doing extremely well, anyway.
